- What is a cryolipolysis?
It is a non-invasive method for treating local fat permanently, by exposing the fat cells to controlled freezing conditions (at -9o C for 1 hour). This prolonged cooling causes fat cell apoptosis (cell death) and the metabolic products that are released in this process are progressively eliminated over 3 months, when the optimum results can be observed. - How is it performed?
Once the area to be treated has been marked, a special membrane is placed on the area. The device handpiece contains a suction mechanism that draws and cools the skin for about 1 hour at a steady temperature, without affecting the surrounding tissue. The area is then massaged and the patient may leave straightaway, without encountering any problems. - Where it is applied?
It can be applied on any area where there is adequate accumulation of localized fat, e.g. tummy, hips, love handles, waist, back, arms, etc. - Can anyone benefit?
The method works best on areas where adequate fat deposits remain, even after efforts to decrease one’s total body weight. However, it is not a weight-loss method. - Who are excluded?
The method is not suitable for expectant and breastfeeding mothers, as well as individuals with a history of allergy to cold, cryoglobulinemia, autoimmune diseases, malignancies, skin disorders, blood coagulation disorders, local problems (varicose veins, hernias, etc). In all events, the area chosen and the suitability of the case are examined by the attending physician, ensuring the greatest benefit and guaranteed safety. - Is it painful?
It is a well tolerated procedure, whereby patients feel an odd pulling sensation for the first 10 minutes due to the negative pressure. But the sensation soon fades and they can read a book or even fall asleep until the end of the session. It is possible to feel a tingling/prickling sensation, deep pain and skin numbness in the area in the next few days, but the symptoms can subside with painkillers. Local bruising due to the negative pressure from the handset also fades quickly. - Is the treatment repeated?
The treatment consists of a single session for each local fat zone. The Cryolipo device enables us to accurately set the parameters for fat freezing, so a single session is quite effective. The targeted area will reach optimum results in 3 months. After that, a repeat session may be performed if the patient wishes further fat reduction. It is possible to treat more than one area at a time. - Are there any side-effects?
There are no serious side-effects. However, some patients may experience bruising due to the negative pressure. In this case, the bruising subsides in 3-7 days. On rare occasions, a transient loss of sensation may occur in the treated area, which lasts about 1 to 3 weeks.
