General Information
The only certified Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery Center of Excellence in Greece is a point of reference in SE Europe for the provision of dedicated endocrine surgery. An extremely large number of procedures is performed every year, using the latest and most advanced techniques and special, cutting-edge microsurgery technology.
The Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery Center received the international CenterofExcellence certification after rigid evaluation of a series of clinical parameters, including the impressively high success rates of procedures (minimal amount of complications compared to international data).
The long medical experience, with significant clinical and scientific work in Greece and abroad, offers staff the ability to perform surgery for even the most demanding conditions of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, and the cervical lymph nodes.
Using modern surgical techniques, we aim at safe, practically bloodless and radical procedures, with excellent aesthetic results for the patient. One-day hospitalization, without drains, sutures or pain, makes it easy to speak and eat postoperatively, with fast return of patients to their daily activities.

Medical Infrastructure & Technology
The Endocrine Surgery Department has exclusive, daily use of a fully-equipped operating room for performing minimally invasive surgical procedures. The medical equipment includes an advanced radiofrequency device for extremely accurate tissue transection without bleeding.
A neuromonitoring system is in place for customized or continuous use, which safeguards the integrity of the laryngeal nerves and voice. During cervical lymph node dissection for malignant thyroid conditions, a portable ultrasound device may be used intraoperatively for lymph node metastasis detection.
There is also a video laryngoscopy system available to test the proper function of the vocal chords. The Operating Room is linked to the Biotechnology Lab, offering immediate hormonal determination and application of the modern intraoperative PTH measurement method, necessary for successful parathyroidectomy. The equipment, coupled with the high-level medical know-how, permits the performance of microsurgical parathyroidectomy under local anesthesia.
